As part of its integration of Grove Worldwide, Manitowoc, Wis.-based Manitowoc Co. said recently it will close its National Crane Corp. boom-truck manufacturing operations in Waverly, Neb. Approximately 300 jobs will be eliminated as a result.

According to The Business Journal of Milwaukee, Manitowoc will consolidate production into a plant in Shady Grove, Pa. Both facilities were acquired when the company acquired Grove Worldwide last year.

Closing is expected by the end of the year and only a few of the plant's support staff are expected to transfer to the Pennsylvania operation, Thomas Musial, Manitowoc's senior vice president, human resources and administration, told the newspaper.

Assets of the National Crane operations will be sold. Proceeds from the sale are expected to equal or slightly exceed the after-tax costs associated with the move.
