Caterpillar announces the 321C LCR hydraulic excavator, which replaces the 321B LCR. The new C-series excavator features a compact swing radius for high productivity in tight areas, such as near buildings, on highways and on logging roads. It offers improved performance through increased horsepower and hydraulic flow, a larger cab for improved comfort and visibility, and factory installed auxiliary hydraulics for expanded versatility.

The 321C LCR is designed to rotate with little to none of the counterweight extending beyond its tracks. To further minimize the working envelope, the boom is positioned farther back in the upper frame as compared to a standard excavator. This design reduces the front swing radius when the boom is pulled up for easier operation in limited spaces.

“With the 321C LCR, the key aspect is its compact radius of the tail swing,” says Ed Smola, Caterpillar senior project engineer-marketing. “The ability for a machine of this size to be able to get into tight space restricted areas and work effectively is what separates it from other units, whereas standard excavators are less effective or not able to work within the same space. Safety, operator confidence and minimal overhang are also key aspects. The operator can run the machine without worries of hitting the counterweight into anything or anyone working near the excavator.”
