BREA, Calif. -- Shaun Flanagan will step down from day-to-day activities as president of Fresno, Calif.-based Horizon High Reach & Equipment on January 1, he told RER. Rick Penkert, currently regional manager of Horizon's central division, will take over Flanagan's duties as general manager of Horizon, No. 35 on the RER 100.

Aerial industry veteran Flanagan, who operates out of the Brea facility, will remain on Horizon's board of directors and will move on to special assignments and projects. Flanagan will take on greater responsibilities in seeking new expansion opportunities and product lines. In the past year, Horizon has expanded beyond aerial, adding skid-steer loaders and telescopic handlers to the inventory in some branches.

Flanagan said Horizon plans to add three locations during the first quarter of 1999. Central California, New York and Texas are the targeted areas, and the company is looking at buildings and sites. Flanagan added that the company would like to have 25 locations by the end of 1999.

Horizon grossed $29.7 million in rentals in 1997 and currently has 17 locations.
