Vermeer Takes a Walk in the Pedestrian Market
Vermeer is introducing a line of small, walk-behind trenchers, the RT60, RT100 and RT200.
This family of trenchers for the pedestrian market has been designed for general utility trenching, and is built to stand up to the usage demands of rental centers and contractors.
With the RT60, Vermeer says it is the first manufacturer of large trenchers to offer a chain and boom style trencher under 10 hp. The chain and boom style trencher is equipped with the Vermeer Shark Chain that uses welded, carbide-tipped teeth, and is designed to trench 4, 8 or 12 inches deep.
Among the many features of the larger, fully-hydrostatic RT100 and RT200 trenchers is the reduction of wear parts. The trenchers are the first fully-hydrostatic pedestrian trenchers offered, the maker says, enhancing their practicality for utility installations, as well as landscaping, plumbing and irrigation work. These units were designed for use in most ground conditions including dirt, clay and other tough soils.
The compact designs of these machines makes them easier to transport on a trailer or truckbed, and allows operators access into many hard to negotiate areas, such as backyards or around obstructions.
“These new machines, especially the RT60, will help reduce manual labor on smaller projects,” says Mark Cooper, product manager of the Trencher Group. “They are cost-efficient to own and rent, and designed for homeowners to use.”
