Trench Rollers Feature New Control Systems

The new generation of Wacker RT rollers offers a smart control system and engine control module that makes these trench rollers easier to operate and maintain. The RT 56-SC and RT 82-SC offer a simplified design providing durability, reliability and increased compaction force, the company says. The series is designed for the compaction of sub bases for foundations, roads and parking lots.

Wacker's new smart control starts with a dual joystick control box that makes steering the unit easy.

RT's smart system also applies to the new engine control module (ECM). The rollers come equipped with a 20-hp liquid-cooled Lombardini engine, and many of the engine functions are monitored by the ECM. A set of easy-to-read diagnostic LED's on the control panel monitors the engine oil pressure, radiator fluid level, engine temperature, glow plug and battery, plus the machine's tip angle. If the ECM determines any of these functions are not operating properly, the machine will automatically shut down.

“The articulated steering and exciters in the drums, which now have more force per drum than the previous version, make for a more productive machine,” says Jay Baudhuin, Wacker's product manager-compaction. “The electronic throttle replaces the mechanical throttle cable. Users do not have to worry about the throttle cable collecting water, freezing and going out of adjustment.”

Verified by Jay Baudhuin, product manager-compaction for Wacker.
