Operating and handling heavy equipment requires careful measures and attentive caution from the operator. Operators need to be responsible adults who practice all safety precautions, operations instructions and warning guidelines. Successful trailer transportation depends on the person operating the towing vehicle, and the operator should understand and follow all safety information to prevent accidents and injury.

During operation * Always follow state and local regulations regarding safety chains and auxiliary lighting when towing. Use only safety chains to retain connection between towing vehicle and towed unit in the event of separation.

* Familiarize yourself with all safety signs and warning labels.

* Do not load towed vehicle with cargo.

* Allow no passengers on or in the towed unit.

* Crisscross safety chains under the tongue and secure them to the mounting loops on the towing vehicle. Use an appropriately sized and rated hitch ball and attach the safety chains.

* Secure the emergency brake actuator cable to the mounting loop on the towing vehicle.

* Do not exceed 45 mph.

* Always keep the towing vehicle in gear to allow engine braking when going downhill.

* Always yield to oncoming traffic.

* Watch obstructions overhead and to both sides while transporting.

* Operate with maximum visibility at all times.

Tire safety * Failure to follow procedures when mounting a tire on a rim can cause an explosion that may result in serious injury or death.

* Do not attempt to mount a tire unless you have proper equipment and experience to do the job. Contact trained personnel to service and/or mount tires.

* Inflate tires to the recommended psi. Routinely check tires to ensure even inflation.

* Always install tires and wheels with the appropriate type and load capacity that meet or exceed the gross weight of the unit.

Performing maintenance * Ensure adequate ventilation when operating the towing vehicle.

* Following operation, or while unhitching, stop the towing vehicle, set the parking brake, turn off the engine and remove the ignition key.

* Use only proper tools or equipment for the job at hand.

* Always block wheels and never use a jack as sole support.

* Obtain a torque chart when tightening bolts and nuts. Tighten wheel and lug nuts to the specified torque.

* Make sure brakes are evenly adjusted.

* Always compare the tow rating on the vehicle with the weight in tow.

* Keep a fire extinguisher and first-aid kit readily accessible.
