Caterpillar will manufacture machinery in Russia with production likely to be set up at the company's plant in the Tosno, Leningrad region. The plant currently produces Caterpillar parts, many of which are exported to the Peoria, Ill.-based company's European plants. Cat also entered a joint venture with Woodridge, Ill.-based Morey to manufacture electronic control systems for Caterpillar customers.

Johnson Diamond Tool in Williams, Ariz. retained exclusive rights to sell its emerald cut green concrete saws. The saws were previously sold by Gainesville, Ga.-based Norton Construction Products.

Avon Bearings in Avon, Ohio expanded its manufacturing plant in order to accommodate production of large diameter turntable bearings and slewing. The facility was expected to be operational by the second quarter.

Truck-mounted crane seller and renter Giuffre Bros. Cranes in Milwaukee sold its storage container business to Tempe, Ariz.-based Mobil Mini. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. Guiffre operates in seven states.

The International Safety Equipment Association launched a nationwide campaign to reduce worker injuries and fatalities by raising awareness and use of personal protective equipment in the construction industry. The campaign includes a bi-monthly newsletter, Web site and a communications tool kit to help companies promote safe workplaces.

Glasgow, Scotland-based Aggreko Plc, the parent company of Aggreko Inc. in New Iberia, La., received the Scottish Engineering Award in recognition of the achievements of the company's design and assembly center in Dumbarton, Scotland. The honor recognizes firms for raising the standards of the industry.

A financial advisor recommended Seoul, South Korea-based Hyundai Engineering and Construction cut 1,000 employees as part of a company-wide restructuring program, according to CEO Shim Hyun-young. South Korea's largest construction firm is about US$3.41 billion in debt.

Bridgeport, N.J.-based Godwin Pumps of America acquired Godwin Pumps Limited in Quenington, England. The companies will have combined annual sales in excess of $100 million, according to the New Jersey firm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
