Cummins' automotive customers have more power in their hands, thanks to a new interactive Web-based application called PowerSpec that allows them to customize the electronic features of their engines. Available online 24/7, users of PowerSpec simply follow user-friendly prompts to tailor specs on a Cummins Interact System (IS) engine for trucking applications.

“Cummins PowerSpec is the first and only Internet-based [customizing] tool that empowers dealers to easily adjust engine parameters specific to their individual customers' needs prior to vehicle delivery,” says Laura Wenzler, marketing director at Cummins, Columbus, Ind. “And given PowerSpec's online access, end-user customers can easily research and select those features best suited to their business needs.”

PowerSpec is also an educational tool, providing data about the programmable features of Cummins automotive engines and detailed information about engine configurations, theory of operation and driving techniques. It allows authorized users to upload engine parameters to a disk and bring the data back to a dealer or distributor as a reference guide. Wenzler says access is controlled by a security system that allows authorized users to easily modify their engine's electronic features.

“Cummins PowerSpec makes it easy for dealers to better spec equipment upon delivery,” she says. “PowerSpec also allows customers who may not have direct contact with a dealer or distributor to easily optimize their vehicles.”
