CHICAGO — Robert Toomey, vice president of NES Rentals' traffic safety division, received the Construction Industries of Massachusetts (CIM) Award, one of the state's most prestigious construction industry awards.

The CIM organization is composed of various companies committed to furthering the progress of the heavy construction industry. The CIM Award was instituted as a means for the organization to honor certain members for their professionalism, integrity and contributions to the construction industry throughout their career.

The award was presented to Toomey at the CIM annual meeting May 3 at the Newton Marriott Hotel in Newton, Mass.

“Bob Toomey is the sixth person in CIM's 83-year history to receive this prestigious award, and that illustrates the tremendous impact he has made during his career,” said John Pourbaix, Jr., executive director of CIM.

Toomey has served on CIM's board of directors since 1981, for eight separate two-year terms. He served as board vice chairman from 1986-1987 and board chairman from 1987-1988. Toomey also was treasurer six times and has served on many of CIM's standing and ad-hoc committees.

Currently a vice president of NES Rentals, Toomey is responsible for its traffic safety division, a position he has held since April 2001. Prior to joining NES Rentals, Toomey was co-owner of L&C Flashing Barricades in Avon, Mass., a $15 million business that was acquired by NES Rentals in September 1999.
