Mini-excavator Boasts Creature Comforts

Ditch Witch modified one of its mini-excavators to create the MX182. This new model is designed to help the operator perform tasks with more efficiency and offers a sturdy undercarriage, zero tail swing capability, and an innovative load-sensing system that allows multiple hydraulic functions to operate simultaneously at full power.

The operator's station has also been updated for greater comfort. “The MX182 has a wider entrance, a wider seat, and at least 55 percent more floor space than its predecessor,” says Mike Lumbers, compact utility product manager. “The operator's station also features a neutral engine start system, which prevents the operator from starting the machine when the hydraulic functions are engaged.”

Both the neutral engine start system and the control switch for the machine's 2-speed ground drive are easily accessible from the operator's seat, the company says. Other standard features include a two-post ROPS and top-guard canopy. The machine's tilt-up operator compartment facilitates access to engine and hydraulic components, which simplifies maintenance.

The 15-hp Komatsu engine meets current emissions standards, and only requires service every 500 operating hours, which reduces maintenance costs as well as downtime, according to Lumbers.

Verified by Mike Lumbers, compact utility product manager for Ditch Witch.
