Former United Manager Buys Arrow Rentals

SACRAMENTO — Sam Awabdy, who worked for Acme/Action Rentals, San Leandro Rentals and United Rentals, recently acquired Arrow Rentals in Sacramento, Calif. Awabdy is currently remodeling the facility, putting in a 1,200-square-foot showroom and improving the property.

Arrow specializes in small contractor, homeowner and party equipment. In addition to facility improvements, Awabdy is revitalizing Arrow's fleet by purchasing all new equipment. Currently the biggest pieces are small tractors, and Awabdy plans to add skid-steer loaders and small track excavators next year.

The Palestinian-born Awabdy began his rental career a dozen years ago with Acme/Action Rentals in Oakland, and also worked at Action's San Francisco branch. When former owner Ira Mendelsohn sold those businesses, Awabdy joined San Leandro Rentals, which later was acquired by United Rentals.

Awabdy credits former San Leandro owner Vic Baldi for passing along knowledge and “giving me the push” to consider buying his own company.
