VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Finning International sold its Western Canadian materials handling unit to Leavitt machinery and co-owner Tom Leavitt who has headed the Finning division since 1991. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Finning said the sale, which is expected to close by the end of September, allows it to focus on the company's core business of retailing Caterpillar heavy equipment. The sale does not include Finning's British unit that sells similar material handling equipment.

Finning is No. 14 on the RER 100 with 28 outlets across Western Canada.
