Doosan's Silber Retires After 30-Year Career
Mocksville, N.C. — Larry Silber, president of Doosan Infracore Portable Power, formerly Ingersoll Rand Utility Equipment, retired June 1, after a 30-year career with the company.
“I'm retiring on a high note after 29 1/2 years with Ingersoll Rand and its successor Doosan Infracore for the last six months,” Silber told RER. “Now just seems like the right timing. I think we've done everything that I set out to do with the business over the past few years. We refocused the business strategically, we gave it a new name, Portable Power, previously known as Utility Equipment. We opened our new world headquarters in Statesville, N.C. We've repositioned the other factories around the world out of Ingersoll Rand plants and into standalone facilities.”
Silber is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he earned a degree in business administration. He began his career with Ingersoll Rand immediately after graduation, beginning as a sales trainee in the professional tools group. He quickly moved into marketing and business management for that business unit, holding various positions such as regional sales manager and national sales manager. In 1989, Silber was promoted to vice president, holding that title in various capacities of the business: sales and worldwide marketing, automotive aftermarket and sales/distribution operations.
In 1997, Silber moved to the construction and mining group, where he served as vice president of rental sales and strategic business development and then vice president of U.S. and Canadian sales. In January 2000, Silber became president of Ingersoll Rand Equipment & Services Co., where he was responsible for all Ingersoll Rand stores and remarketing initiatives. In 2002, he took charge of sales relationships and the additional responsibility of developing its global remarketing business, turning it into a $100 million global business line for Ingersoll Rand. In November 2007 Doosan Infracore acquired the Bobcat, Utility Development and Attachment businesses from Ingersoll Rand Co.
In 2006, Silber was named president of Ingersoll Rand Utility Equipment. A New Jersey native, Silber is married and has three sons.
“I feel like I'm batting .400 and I'd like to go out being remembered that way,” said Silber. “I'd rather leave a business on my own terms and with nothing but great memories about the business, about the industry, and the people that I've worked with. At this point in my career I want to take some time to enjoy the fruits of my labor.”
