CMI Terex Confirms 146 Cut at Plant

CMI Terex Corp. recently confirmed the layoffs of 146 employees at its Oklahoma City heavy-equipment plant last week as state and local governments have less money to spend on road-building projects, The Oklahoman recently reported.

Art Kaplan, president of Terex Roadbuilding Group, said 127 production employees and 19 administrative workers have been laid off at the factory. About 500 employees remain at the plant, he said.

CMI Terex eliminated the plant's second shift, with workers laid off in order of seniority. According to the report, most who lost their jobs had less than 10 years of service with the factory. Laid-off employees were offered between four and eight weeks of severance pay, as well as outplacement help in finding jobs.

CMI Terex makes equipment such as concrete pavers, grinders and asphalt mixers. Oklahoma City is headquarters for the Terex Roadbuilding Group.
