Caterpillar recently announced plans for its new C18 ACERT off-highway diesel engine to be made available in mid-2004. The 18.1 L diesel is expected to be introduced in the spring of 2004.

The C18, to be built at the company's Mossville, Ill., plant, will be available in five ratings from 575 hp to 765 hp. Applications for the new diesel include blast hole drill rigs, four-wheel-drive agricultural tractors, pavers, chippers, shredders and other construction equipment.
