Komatsu

Komatsu's new line of backhoe loaders — the WB140-2N, WB140PS-2N (pictured), WB150-2N, WB150PS-2N and the WB150AWS-2N — feature increased hydraulic speed, more advanced components and Tier II compliant engines. With operating weights between 16,600 and 19,731 pounds, these backhoes are designed for use in a variety of loading and excavation applications, including underground utility, general construction and landscaping operations. The HydrauMind hydraulics system consists of a single variable flow hydraulic pump and a hydraulic circuit that allows the machine to react almost instantly to specific operator controls.

John Deere

The new 710G backhoe from John Deere has been updated from the previous model to provide enhanced serviceability and reliability. Enhanced components include the boom, loader arms, cab and tilted hood, all of which feature numerous design improvements to add strength and facilitate servicing. The 710G features a 118-net-hp John Deere 6068T diesel to provide power and versatility for maximum productivity. A 70-gallon tank allows more time between refueling, and the loader bucket dump angle has been increased to 45 degrees for better bucket clean-out and 25 percent more bucket corner prying force.

Bobcat

Bobcat's new line of loader backhoes includes models B100, B250 and B300 (pictured), which all come standard with a Kubota diesel engine. With dig depths ranging from 9 feet, 3 inches to 11 feet, the B-Series machines offer a hydrostatic-driven transmission and one-stick loader control with a float function. Side-swing, boom and dipper cylinders are cushioned, which promotes smooth operation and machine productivity. The loader backhoes also feature spacious, platform-style cabs, hydrostatic transmissions and simple controls. A 180-degree rotating seat facilitates switching from the loader to backhoe operation.

Waylon Boyer, vice president of The Rental Store in Joplin, Mo., likes the B100 loader backhoes for their power and says that for being small, they have more power than anything else on the market. “The B100 is a great rental tool, especially for the small guy because when you rent it to a homeowner, it's small enough that they can handle it and it has enough power for the small contractor,” he says.

Woods Equipment Co.

The BH6000 Groundbreaker-X backhoe attachment from Woods Equipment is designed for subcompact tractors in the 18- to 24-hp range. It features bucket digging forces of 2,025 pounds for the 8-inch bucket and 2,200 pounds for the 12- and 16-inch buckets. The BH6000 also has a durable cast swing frame with a hydraulic end-of-stroke swing cushion that saves wear and tear on the frame and gears, and protected hoses and fittings that are easily accessible for regular maintenance. An easy on/easy off four-point mounting system attaches and detaches in about three minutes — no tools required.

Volvo Construction Equipment

The Volvo BL60 backhoe loader is equipped with a low-emission, 86-net-hp turbocharged diesel engine and a reliable fixed-flow hydraulic system, providing power and control for a wide range of loading and digging applications. The machine has a digging depth of 14 feet, 9 inches. The 1.3-cubic-yard loader bucket has a lift capacity of 5,114 pounds. The BL60 features 50-hour greasing intervals, 500-hour engine oil change intervals and a tilting hydraulic oil cooler. A heavy-duty loader safety strut is integral to the loader arms. Ingersoll-Rand

The BL Series of backhoe loaders from Ingersoll-Rand features seven powerful and easy-to-use models that are designed for access and versatility (pictured BL-370). The compact size is designed for utility contractors, landscapers, plumbers and rental companies. Each model comes standard with the Bob-Tach coupler system for the loader bucket and backhoe X-Change mounting for quick and convenient bucket switch-out. Both center-mount and side-shift models are available in the series. The center-mount models come with rear, fold-down stabilizers for solid placement when space is not a concern. For those more confined areas, the narrower rear vertical stabilizers with the side-shift backhoe allow the operator to dig along foundations without extensive repositioning.

Mike Baker is the western region equipment manager for InfraSource Underground, which installs gas, power and telecommunications utilities underground. Baker has used the Ingersoll-Rand backhoe loaders for burying cable in backyards and near roads. He says the backhoes are versatile and the size of the equipment allows him to get places he couldn't otherwise reach. “They're not as big as regular backhoes, but they have plenty of power,” Baker says.

Kubota

The Kubota 4WD M6800 tractor with hydraulic shuttle is quick to change directions to maximize productivity. When equipped with implements such as the LA1162 self-leveling loader and the M4711 backhoe, they fulfill the best of a utility tractor and a digging machine. The backhoe can dig up to 11.1 feet with a 2-foot flat bottom and has 6,167 pounds of bucket breakout force. It also provides structural integrity with a durable 4-point quick attach frame system. The M6800 can be equipped with 3-point hitch landscaping tools, like a box scraper for preparatory or final grading, as well as loading or leveling with the LA1162 loader. The loader's universal skid loader-type quick coupler allows additional versatility with pallet forks for material handling on the jobsite.

JCB

The JCB 214 backhoe loader achieves all-around visibility in the cab with an increased glass area, strategic positioning of the front windshield wiper, a wide rear-opening window, and a low floor at the rear for visibility down the trench. A choice of two transmission systems is available. The 4-speed Powershift offers smooth gear changes, as well as a long working life and reliability. The Autoshift 6-speed transmission speeds up cycle times due to better gear spreads as well as a lower first gear ratio for traction and more torque at low pushing speeds. Road speed is 24 mph on Autoshift-equipped models. The engine cover on the JCB gives loader bucket visibility for greater precision when handling loads. The tilt hood with removable side panels also offers easy service access for both daily checks and routine maintenance. The optional, fully adjustable seat-mounted Precision Controls System allows operators to utilize a backhoe loader from any non-rear-facing position. This advancement offers full 180-degree performance for backhoe operations.
