Despite a downturn in the Chinese construction market, the Bauma China tradeshow attracted 191,000 visitors, up about 6 percent from roughly 180,000 visitors to the 2012 trade fair, organizers said. The show, at the Shanghai New Internatioal Expo Center attracted, a 12-percent increase in international attendees.

“After 12 years of development of Bauma China, this show is not only a platform for product presentation, but also a grand industry party for communication and cooperation for further growth,” said Eugen Egetenmeir, managing director of Messe München, which also produces the Bauma show in Munich every three years.

“Bauma China 2014 is taking place in the midst of a recession in the construction machinery market,” added Li Fangyu, vice president of marketing China, Volvo Construction Equipment. “However, judging by the exhibitors and VIP customers we met here, the trade show is very encouraging. At such times, Bauma China is giving us vitality, hope and spirit.”

After visitors from China, the top 10 visitor countries and regions were Russia, Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia, in that order.

The 3,104 exhibitors occupied all of the available exhibition space, totaling 300,000 square meters (3.23 million square feet). Exhibitors came from 41 countries. After China, which had 2,097 exhibitors, the top five exhibitors countries were Germany, the United States, Italy, Korea and Japan. Bauma China also featured nine international pavilions.

Bauma China set up a “business matchmaking” system to facilitate contacts between exhibitors and visitors, where attendees could search detailed information the exhibitors had posted in the system and could target the exhibitors that interested them most and make appointments in advance.
