Global industrial services and scaffolding rental specialist Harsco Corp. secured the lead role in supplying rental scaffolding and formwork systems to a major expansion project at one of Chile’s largest copper mines, the Minera Dona Ines de Collahuasi SCM mine in northern Chile. Terms of the order were not disclosed.

The project marks a significant step in Harsco’s expansion into the international mining sector, where the company’s experience in serving the global metals and construction industries has crossover applicability.

The Collahuasi mine is a major producer of copper concentrate, accounting for nearly 10 percent of the copper produced in Chile. Harsco’s engineered forming systems will be used during the pouring of nearly 13,000 cubic yards of cast-in-concrete for walls, floors and other structures, and its scaffolding will be used to provide work-at-height access for construction crews throughout the project.

“Opportunities in adjacent markets such as mining, are a critical component of our future growth strategy,” said Mark Kimmel, president of the global Harsco Infrastructure Group.

Harsco Corp. is based in Harrisburg, Pa.
