Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control has signed two major international contracts worth an estimated $75 million, the company said last week, for the supply of 215 MW of temporary power in Panama and Oman.

Aggreko will supply Empresa de Generacion Electrica SA, the Panamanian state power generating utility, with 100 MW of power generation to support the Panamanian power grid. The contract is for an initial duration of 12 months. The contract is Aggreko’s first with EGESA and the largest ever signed by Aggreko in Central America.

Aggreko identified Panama as a key market three years ago and the contract follows the recent opening of a new regional hub in the country. The requirement for emergency power resulted from a shortage of rain, which depleted the capacity of hydro power plants and shortfalls in production from other suppliers to EGESA. Aggreko will provide base load power for the grid at two locations at up to 115,000 volts.

Also, Aggreko will provide Oman Power and Water Procurement Co., the Sultanate of Oman’s utility, with 115 MW of power generation across five sites for a minimum three-month period to provide power generation during the summer months.

“Yet again, our ability to deliver very large amounts of utility-grade power within weeks to customers has proved to be a compelling proposition for utilities that need to keep providing stable power supplies to their customers,” said Rupert Soames, Aggreko chief executive. “These two contracts also underline the global reach of Aggreko and the ability to deliver power cost-effectively for short periods of time to help utilities overcome temporary shortfalls.”

Aggreko, based in Glasgow, Scotland, with U.S. headquarters in Houston, is No. 10 on the RER 100.
