Greenwich, Conn.-based United Rentals last week opened a contractor supply distribution center in Aurora, Ill., as well as a new general rental branch in Caspar, Wyo. The 48,000-square-foot Aurora facility is the third of nine regional warehouses planned throughout the United States and Canada. The new warehouse will stock 8,000 retail contractor supply line items, including saw blades, power tools and safety gear. "The center is integrated with the same information technology that links our more than 730 branches, giving our field sales force access to our state-of-the-art electronic ordering system,”said Michael DeCata, vice president, fleet operations for United Rentals. “Most customers who place orders before 5 p.m. can expect overnight delivery of their supplies."

The Aurora center will fulfill customer orders placed through more than 100 United Rentals locations from Ohio to Iowa, and Minnesota to Kentucky. "Illinois is strategically suited to market opportunities in the Midwest," said DeCata. "The goal is to support our locations in every way possible to provide our customers with a complete solution for every jobsite requirement."

United Rentals opened two contractor supplies distribution centers in late 2004 in Atlanta, and Middletown, Pa. The company expects to stock 10,000 contractor supplies at each of its distribution centers by the end of 2005.

The company also announced the grand opening of its newest general rentals branch in Casper, Wyo. The 10,320-square-foot facility will help United compete in the developing mountain states region. Eli Hofer is branch manger. United Rentals is No. 1 on the RER 100.
