The D51EX-22 (pictured) and D51PX-22 crawler dozers from Komatsu America are mid-size machines designed to work in general construction, site preparation, home building, forestry, utility and quarry applications. Both standard (EX) and low-ground pressure (PX) models are equipped with Komatsu's 6.69-liter, Tier-3-certified engine that offers 130 hp at 2,200 rpm. Operating weights of the crawler dozers range from 27,778 to 28,881 pounds, depending on the machine version.

“The D51-22 dozer design, with improved blade visibility, will increase an operator's productivity,” says Bruce Boebel, product marketing manager of crawler dozers for Komatsu America. “The operator is about 22 inches closer to the blade and the cab is positioned towards the center of the machine, improving machine balance and gradeability. The engine and HST components are large and durable. For a rental user this means less time repairing and maintaining the machine and more uptime.”

The steering system provides smooth movement when dozing, allowing the dozers to approach objects accurately in corner grading and sidewall operations. Selection of either variable or Quick-shift speed control allows the dozers to run efficiently during rough grading operations with optimal travel speeds to match job conditions and operator preferences. The D51-22 units also feature an extended undercarriage life with the auto-adjusting front idler guide, large links and large-diameter bushings for reduced undercarriage-maintenance costs.
