Dec. 17, 2014
Canadian distributor Wajax named Thomas Alford, a former oil-and-gas executive to its board of directors.

Canadian distributor Wajax named Thomas Alford, a former oil-and-gas executive to its board of directors. Alford has more than 34 years in the Western Canadian oil-and-gas industry.

Alford founded Trimat Well Servicing, where he served as president and also was president and CEO of Bonus Resource Services Corp. Most recently, Alford was president and CEO of IROC Energy Services Corp, an Alberta oilfield services company that provided a range of products, services and equipment to the Western Canadian oil-and-gas industry. IROC was acquired by Western Energy Services Corp., for which Alford currently is a director. He also sits on the board of High Arctic Energy Services and Strike Energy Services.

The appointment of Alford is an indication of the importance of the oil-and-gas industry to Wajax, which is also a major player in equipment rental. “Alford’s extensive first-hand experience in the Alberta oilfield industry will contribute significantly to helping Wajax achieve its strategic objectives,” said Paul Gagné, chairman of Wajax’s board of directors.

Wajax also announced that Richard Plain, senior vice president of its Power Systems division, has left the company to pursue other opportunities. Michael Gross, a senior executive with 30 years of experience in industrial sales, manufacturing and service, will succeed Plain. Gross most recently was senior vice president, industry sector, for Siemens Canada, where he also had experience in western Canada’s oil-and-gas and oil sands markets.

Wajax is a leading distributor engaged in the sale, rental, and after-sale parts and service support of equipment, power systems and industrial components with 121 branches in Canada. Very involved in rental, Wajax, based in Mississauga, Ontario, is No. 46 on the RER 100.
