The South Plainfield Clean Business Association gave a Glitter Award to United Rentals in South Plainfield, N.J., an award given to businesses that are well maintained or have recently improved their images through renovation or landscaping. United Rentals relocated from Piscataway, N.J., to a former Plunkett-Webster facility in 2008. The Alternative Press reports that the facility has been “beautifully maintained” ever since.
Branch manager Don Richard told the Alternative Press that 31 people work at the branch and that every employee individually does a daily safety walk, covering the entire property, looking for anything out of place or out of repair. Each person records everything he or she sees and signs a log. On some Saturdays, employees come in overtime to do a thorough cleaning. Each piece of equipment has its own assigned space, outlined in paint, so that it is always obvious if an item is available or not. The rental center is located behind an attractive black wrought iron fence set in a narrow green lawn with shade trees and neatly trimmed shrubbery.
United Rentals is the largest equipment rental company in North America. Based in Stamford, Conn., it is No. 1 on the RER 100.
