Tucson, Ariz.-based Aero Rental has shut down after 63 years in operation. The company was founded in 1947 by the late Tom “Mitch” Hoxie, one of the earliest members of the American Rental Association, then known as the American Associated Rental Operators.

Hoxie’s daughter Pamela Bowie said the family doesn’t expect to see economic improvement in southern Arizona soon enough to justify the effort to keep the business operating. The company had three locations, two in Tucson and one in Phoenix. According to ARA, Vern Palmer, general manager of the Phoenix branch, and his son, Jason, plan to reopen as Aero Equipment Supply and purchase the equipment from Aero Rental.
