Houston-based TNT Crane & Rigging has acquired Corpus Christi, Texas-based Kuhn Crane Service, in a deal that closed May 16. Brothers Ron and Mike Kuhn sold the nearly 30-year-old business previously owned by their father Robert Kuhn. The brothers will remain with TNT for a six-month consulting period after which they could remain with the company or move on.

Kuhn Crane, founded in 1979, provided rigging and lifting accessories, late-model cranes, boom trucks and large mobile hydraulic cranes. Ron Kuhn said the company had received several offers in the past, but that now the time was right.

For TNT, the acquisition was a strategic fit. The company opened in 1985 and has branches in Corpus Christi and San Antonio as well as its Houston headquarters. Kuhn also has branches in Edinburg and Victoria, Texas.

CEO Mike Appling said Kuhn’s modern crane fleet, seven-acre Corpus Christi yard, and strong reputation among customers in the oil field were attractive to TNT. KCS had 22 cranes, to be added to TNT’s fleet of 56, according online news reports.
