SMS Rents, a Mississauga, Ont.-based chain of rental centers specializing in Komatsu equipment, has re-located its Sudbury, Ont., branch into a larger 17,000 square-foot facility. The new store is 40-percent larger than the previous SMS branch.

“Our old location was small, hard-to-find and no longer served our needs,” said Brett Moroso, SMS Rents’ regional manager for northern Ontario. “We simply outgrew it. The new store has a great street presence. It is conveniently located and its much larger size allows us to offer many more products and services than before.”

Moroso added the old branch’s location in an industrial area did not attract the contractors and homeowners that make up the majority of SMS Rents’ business. Still, Sudbury was one of SMS’ most successful locations, with strong outside sales efforts, strong relationships with Sudbury’s mining and larger industrial businesses.

“Our new store is larger, easily accessible, more functional and far more visible,” said branch manager Rick Lascelles. “We are within sight of the Vale Inco smelter, and right next door to a popular Tim Horton’s Coffee Shop. The new facility is well suited to the expanded offering of products, equipment and services. We have more useable display space and a large shop for our technicians to service customers’ equipment as well as our rental fleet.” The company will also offer an expanded inventory of safety gear and contractor supplies.

SMS’ Sudbury facility serves as its Northern Ontario regional hub, and supports SMS Rents’ stores in Kapuskasing, Timmins, North Bay and Bracebridge, Ont.
