Skyjack Shows New Telehandlers, Reaffirms Commitment to Rental

Skyjack presented its new TH-Series telehandlers for the first time at the World of Concrete show in Las Vegas. As the Guelph, Ontario-based company looked at the challenge of developing Tier 4 Final telehandlers, it decided to start from scratch, re-assessing every aspect of its machines. The new TH units offer simpler rear-axle stabilization, hydraulics systems, outriggers, controls, engine servicing, electronics and option packages.

Also Skyjack has begun a partnership with Montreal-based CVTCorp to develop a true mechanical continuously variable transmission option for the new telehander series.

“The mechanical CVT greatly increases efficiency over a hydrostatic system,” said Barry Greenaway, product manager, Skyjack. “It also allows the engine to stay in its ideal rpm range, resulting in significant fuel savings. What’s more, these benefits partner perfectly with our SmartTorque 74-hp engines, which already reduce fuel use, and will allow rental companies to reduce net costs to their customers without dropping rental rates.”

Skyjack president Brad Boehler spoke about the importance of the rental industry to the company. “Looking to the future, we remain committed to the rental industry as we aim to become a $1 billion organization in the near future,” Boehler said. “We have three core elements to this plan: Firstly, to maintain and defend our scissor share globally, through additional product and an increase in our geographic presence. Secondly, to grow our boom products to become a full-line boom supplier. We have launched three new booms in the past three years and we will launch three new booms in the next 18 months. And, thirdly, to develop our telehandler offering.”

The new telehandlers include the SJ643 TH, a 6,000-pound maximum lift capacity unit; the SJ843TH, an 8,000-pound machine; the SJ1044TH, a 10,000-pound capacity telehandler, and the SJ1056TH, which has a 10,000 capacity and a maximum lift height of 56 feet, three inches.
