Safway Provides Scaffolds in Multiple Winter Olympics Venues

Safway Services’ Vancouver branch has worked with two contractors to provide and coordinate scaffold products and services for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics as well as the opening ceremonies for the Paralympic Games. More than 130,000 square feet of Safway equipment is being used, including 37,000 square feet of stage area for the main stage; 88,400 square feet of seating risers for all seating, and for the tech zone and camera support; 6,200 square feet for all access ramps to the main stage; and more.

Also for Olympics’ competition and non-competition venues, Safway provided 31,000-plus square feet of platform; nearly 800 vertical feet of stairs; 300-plus lineal feet of pedestrian bridge; 21,600-plus square feet for camera towers; as well as ramps, cable bridges and plywood. More than 600 scaffolds were built for this portion of the project, with camera towers up to 60 feet in height and pedestrian bridges ranging from 26 to 65 feet.
