National Trench Safety, the Houston-based rental company specializing in the rental and sale of trench shoring and traffic safety equipment, has acquired certain operating assets of Stone Pump and Trench LLC, based in Charleston, S.C. NTS also acquired SPT’s Charlotte and Fayetteville, N.C., branches.

The new North Carolina locations are the 19thand 20thbranches for National Trench Safety in the United States. NTS now has operations in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

Los Angeles-based FocalPoint Partners represented Stone Pump & Trench in the transaction.

“We are very pleased to be strengthening our existing footprint in the Carolinas,” said Ron Chilton, president of NTS. “We believe there’s a significant amount of potential for growth in the mid-Atlantic region. Charlotte is a very large metropolitan area with a diverse mix of highway and utility construction, while Fayetteville will put Nneral Pipe TS in a position to better service the needs of the Raleigh and Eastern North Carolina markets. When combined with the operations we opened last year in Burlington, N.C., and Charleston, S.C., the acquired locations in Charlotte and Fayetteville will provide customers an unequaled trench and traffic safety partner in the Carolinas. The acquired Charleston operation has been consolidated into NTS’ existing Charleston operation.

“NTS also anticipates increasing market share through the introduction of new product lines and services to capitalize upon and expand existing opportunities and customer relationships in these markets.”

Chilton said that continued expansion in the mid-Atlantic states has been a priority for NTS for the past couple of years. “As part of the transaction we are acquiring a significant amount of rental fleet that will be used to support our new and existing operations. We will be optimizing that fleet in the coming months and anticipate making a significant investment in additional rental fleet assets, including the introduction of several new products to the markets.”

NTS plans to open several new branch operations in 2013 with additional branches to follow in 2014.
