Martin “Marty” Reid, who served as CEO for Rental Service Corp. from 1994 to 1999, died of a heart attack September 3 at the age of 64.

Reid presided over a period of significant growth at RSC, taking the company from 25 stores in 1994 to 184 in 1999. He served as chairman of the board from Oct. 1995 until he left the company.

“He was a very charismatic leader who treated people with honesty, dignity and respect,” Ellen Steck, vice president of marketing for the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based rental company told RER. “He will be missed by many at RSC and by many in our industry.”

Reid had a wide-ranging business career including stints as CEO of Eastman Christensen Co., a provider of oil and gas drilling systems, from 1986 to 1990, serving as vice chairman from August 1989 to June 1990. From 1991 to 1993, Reid was CEO of Tuboscope, a provider of oilfield-related inspection and coating services. He also served as chairman of the board for that company from Oct. 1990 to April 1996.

Reid is survived by his wife Carol, two grown children and two grandchildren.
