EquipmentWatch Index Offers Benchmarks for Monthly Heavy Equipment Trends

Dec. 6, 2013

Penton’s EquipmentWatch, heavy equipment research specialist and leading provider of database information products for the heavy equipment industry, this week launched the EquipmentWatch Index, a monthly benchmarking report that tracks price, volume and age trends in the heavy equipment market. The index is free to download and available upon request.

“The EquipmentWatch Index is designed to help industry professionals get an immediate sense of the status and health of equipment sales activity,” said Garrett Schemmel, director, brand management, EquipmentWatch. “In addition to price and volume trending by state, we are also benchmarking age trends for top key manufacturers. We’re really excited about these benchmarks, as they don’t exist anywhere else in our industry.”

Key findings of October vs. September activity include:

  • In the Northeast average resale prices declined 2.1 percent, while volume increased 4.8 percent;
  • The average age of equipment increased in the resale market, but decreased in the auction market;
  • Caterpillar equipment age increased by 3.6 percent and 2.4 percent in the resale and auction markets, respectively.

The reports are focused on data collected between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31 and analyzed in context using data drawn from EquipmentWatch’s The Last Bid database of more than 1.4 million records as well as its proprietary resale activity database, with nearly 400,000 unique transactions records in October.
