Caterpillar Ends Donations to Boy Scouts Citing Discriminatory Policies

June 14, 2013

Caterpillar announced this week that it has ended donations to the Boy Scouts because it does not support organizations that discriminate against homosexuals, AP reports. Caterpillar’s decision resulted from a review of a $25,000 funding request.

In the past, Caterpillar has donated to local scout troops through its charity the Caterpillar Foundation, InvestorPlace reported.

A Caterpillar spokesperson said it would review its decision if the Boy Scouts lifts its ban on homosexual adults. Caterpillar joins a growing list of corporate sponsors that have withdrawn funding from the Boy Scouts because of its policies on homosexuals. Chipotle Mexican Grill recently withdrew $4,200 in restaurant coupons that were to be distributed at a Utah scouting event because of the policies and UPS said last year it would cancel future donations to the Boy Scouts as long as the ban remained in place.
