Mobile, Ala.-based Beard Equipment Co. recently launched its Digging for a Cure Project, an effort to raise between $60,000 and $70,000 for USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital and the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute, with the rental revenues earned from its pink John Deere 200C excavator. Beginning Oct. 1 and continuing for 12 months, Beard Equipment will rent the Deere excavator with all rental revenue going to USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital and the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute.

“While launching our wellness program we recognized that employees, customers, relatives and friends have in some way been touched by cancer,” said Kristen Beard DeLaney of Beard Equipment. “We at Beard Equipment wanted to make a contribution to the cancer research community.”

“While exploring ways to contribute we realized that we have two outstanding research facilities here in Mobile,” said Brooke Beard Dodson of Beard Equipment. “USA’s Mitchell Cancer Institute and USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital seemed to be ideal organizations to help make a difference.”

The Deere 200C is a 20-metric-ton excavator designed for general site excavation, installation of pipe and utilities, and land clearing. The pink paint was donated by Tommy English of Automotive Paint Supply and PPG. Rental rates for the excavator are $800 daily, $2,000 weekly and $6,000 monthly.

“We have hopes of raising between $60,000 and $70,000 for Children’s & Women’s and the Mitchell Cancer Institute,” DeLaney said. The tractor will be available to rent in Mobile and through Beard Equipment’s Florida locations in Pensacola, Panama City, Freeport, Jacksonville, Lake City and Palatka.
