Bauma Sets Attendance Records

April 22, 2013

About 530,000 people from more than 200 countries attended the Bauma Trade Fair at the Messe München exhibition center this past week, breaking records for attendance as well as number of exhibitors and exhibitor space. Exhibitors totaled 3,420 — 1,346 from Germany and 2,074 from abroad — from 57 countries, on 570,000 square meters of exhibition space (6.3 million square feet).

“Our exhibitors were delighted with the quality of the visitors here and with the international spread represented among them,” said Klaus Dittrich, chairman and CEO of organizer Messe München. “Good business has been done here. With over 200,000 visitors from outside Germany, the number of international attendees was higher than ever before. The response this year has been simply outstanding.”

The top 10 countries of origin among attendees were Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Russian Federation, France, Netherlands, Great Britain, Sweden and Poland. Indonesia, Bauma’s partner country this year, was strongly represented, with a high-ranking political delegation and about 800 visitors.

“As the largest show in our industry, Bauma represents a unique opportunity to meet with a multitude of our customers from around the world,” added Ron DeFeo, chairman and CEO of Terex Corp.

“For us, Bauma 2013 was a tremendous event and a great success,” added Johannes Weiermair, managing director of SBM Mineral Processing. “On the one hand, because of the truly world-spanning international scope among the visitors and on the other because of the very high level of contacts.”

Exhibitors were also pleased with the amount of business conducted during the show. “From the first day on, the booth of Zeppelin and Caterpillar was almost overrun with visitors,” said Michael Heidemann, chairman of the management board of Zeppelin Baumaschinen GmbH, the German Caterpillar dealer. “We have sold more machines at Bauma 2013 than ever before and have set a new record.”

Yanmei Zhang of China’s XCMG added: “XCMG solicited orders with a total value of over 10 million euros for its products, which is around 120 units of machines. We had a good economic return on our investment in the show.”
