Northern California’s largest family-owned equipment rental company All Star Rents, will open its 11th location Sept. 27 in Antioch, Calif., located at a former United Rentals facility. The branch will be All Star’s first in Contra Costa County.

All Star Rents, which began with one location as Vallejo Rent-All in 1962, was founded by the late American Rental Association inductee Ted de Vries, and is now owned by his son Ken and managed, partly, by third-generation family members. All Star’s 11 locations stretch across northern California from the San Francisco Bay Area to Nevada. The company was voted “Best Equipment Rental Company” by a 2010 San Francisco Chronicle consumer poll.

Dave Hughes will manage the branch. Hughes managed the same branch for United Rentals and U.S. Rentals before that and has lived in the area for more than 15 years, All Star CEO John Wooten said.

“We were able to open the location at a fraction of the cost by buying many of the small items at auctions,” Wooten told RER. “We complemented a large amount of auction items with new stuff as well. We know it will pay off as the economy improves.” Wooten added that the company moved some of its underutilized larger equipment to the new branch.

“We are optimistic about the east county market and look forward to helping build their community,” said Ken de Vries.

Based in Fairfield, Calif., All Star Rents is No. 103 on the expanded RER 100.
