Aggreko, the world leader in rental power and temperature control solutions, provided power generation and heating systems for events, telecasts and related security arrangements surrounding the presidential inauguration Jan. 24. Aggreko has provided similar services for the last four presidential inaugurations.

Aggreko provided power and heating for press tents, audio delays, National Mall security, the VIP area at Lafayette Park, and a tented venue for the National Day of Service, a special service fair encouraging the public to join about 100 charitable and community service groups. Aggreko also powered the press areas, video and audio along the parade route, and the security screening area at the Pentagon.

“It was an honor for Aggreko to once again provide our rental power and temperature control solutions for one of the most significant events in American public life,” said George Long, senior project manager for Aggreko Event Services. “Due to the complexity and tight time frame of the inauguration, our experienced technicians worked around the clock to ensure installations were planned, implemented and flawlessly executed.”

Powering the event required 10.2 MW of electricity, enough to power 300 medium-sized American homes, plus 4,800 kW of heat, enough to warm 320 medium-sized homes. About 30 miles of cable was used, nearly enough to stretch from Washington, D.C., to Baltimore. More than 25 experienced Aggreko technicians from across North America participated. Aggreko began installations Jan. 8, 11 days before the inaugural weekend.

“Installations of this magnitude normally take months to plan,” said Long. “However, because of our experience in large-scale critical applications, the expertise and experience of our technicians and Aggreko’s extensive inventory, we were able to pre-plan, design and install the power and heating systems in a radically reduced time frame, while still being flexible and sensitive to our clients’ needs.”

Based in Scotland, with U.S. headquarters in Houston, Aggreko plc is No. 6 on the RER 100.
