Trained for Cranes

Manitowoc Crane Care has added three new modules to its E-training program. Basic courses on mechanical systems, pneumatics, and AC/DC drives and motors are now available online, joining the mobile hydraulic and mobile electric courses previously available.

The basic mechanical course is designed to give students a broad-based view of the physics, schematics and systems design associated with mechanical power transmission. The pneumatics course focuses on the basics associated with pneumatic and fluid power systems. In this module, students will learn about compressors, air dryers, actuators and airline conductors.

The AC/DC drives and motors module is designed to help students understand how electrical motors and drives work with each other and other systems. In this training module, students will learn how to identify and calculate the speed, torque and horsepower of a motor, how motors and drives operate, and how to match system components to specific applications. At the beginning of each 15-hour module, students are encouraged to take a pre-test to establish their base level of knowledge. Throughout the course, there are quizzes to check comprehension and a post-course test for certification. Students can complete the course at their convenience and can stop and start whenever necessary.

Job Search

Designed to connect employers with qualified employment seekers, Mechanics Unlimited offers an online tool to help make the job/employee search process easier. The site, similar to Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com, has a narrower scope intended to allow people in the equipment market a chance to search for jobs and employees related to their skills and opportunities.

Once registered, the site offers employers the option of posting careers, managing posted job opportunities, listing a company profile and searching through posted resumes for a small fee. Job seekers can post their resume and search for careers for free. Employment categories include automotive technicians, transmissions specialists, diesel engine technicians and construction/heavy equipment mechanics.

Web Swap Meet

Looking to sell equipment online to increase buying interest? Visit eLiftTrader.com, a web database site dedicated to the listing of high-reach (aerial, booms, scissors and telehandlers), cranes and lift-truck equipment. This database is geared toward manufacturers, dealers, brokers and end users. The site allows sellers to list their equipment with detailed descriptions and photos, and to offer equipment for sale at retail prices. Registered sellers have the ability to add, delete or change their equipment listings, such as changes in prices, locations or photos, from their computer.

The site also gives sellers a venue in which they can list their lifting equipment for sale, establish fair market value and advertise their companies. Those purchasing equipment can search through equipment categories or for the exact make and model of lifting equipment, and eLiftTrader matches them up with a seller.

Tools of the Trade

Great Neck Saw Manufacturers, a U.S. supplier of hand tools, announces the launch of its new website, www.greatnecksaw.com. Providing user-friendly access to the Great Neck product line, which includes brands such as Sheffield, GreatLITE, OEM and Mayes, the site also acts as a comprehensive business tool for Great Neck customers and representatives.

One of the site's key features includes product demonstrations via downloadable flash technology. Visitors can receive a firsthand look at exactly how a tool performs on the job. A pan-and-zoom option gives viewers an up-close look at the 3,000-plus products from several angles. Bite-size highlights on all product features are available when each tool is selected, as well as enlarged imagery. Additional website features include dedicated web pages for trade show products, information on quarterly specials and a list of participating retailers.

Submit new technology, computer products and websites for consideration in Megabytes to Katie Eagan at keagan@rermag.com.
