Bobcat Digs Up New Compact Excavators

Bobcat adds the new E42, E45 and E50 models to its M-Series compact excavator line in the 4-to 5-ton weight class. The new machines are designed for improved performance and operator comfort.

“In order to improve overall performance, an extensive effort was made to shift the weight in the machines' upper structures rearward,” says Tom Connor, compact excavator product specialist, Bobcat Co. “This, along with redesigned work group structures, results in reduced overall machine weight, improved digging and lifting performance and improved tractive performance when maneuvering.”

The E42, E45 and E50 also include an auto-idle feature that, if activated by the operator, automatically returns the engine to idle if excavator functions are not used for a period of four seconds, saving fuel and reducing jobsite noise. The engine automatically returns to the preset throttle position as soon as the operator starts working again. For precise engine speed adjustments, a new easy-to-use rotary knob has been added to the controls.

“For enhanced security, the new machines offer an optional keyless ignition feature, which replaces the conventional ignition key with a keypad,” says Connor. “The machine can only be started after an assigned four-digit code is entered. This system helps to deter theft, minimize unauthorized use and discourage vandalism.”
