Hoist Offers Lifting Alternatives

The Scorpio Plus and Plus XL portable hoists from Beta Max offer an alternative to ropes and pulleys for lifting general building materials. The hoists are portable, flexible and strong enough to withstand the jobsite environment, according to the company.

The Scorpio Plus XL has a lifting capacity of 400 pounds and can travel up to 160 feet high, while the Scorpio Plus has a lifting capacity of 400 pounds up to a height of 80 feet. They have a travel speed of up to 80 fpm. The hoists have flexible mounting options and can be attached to scaffolding using the Beta Max Scaff Trac or Vertical Post Mount. They can also be attached to I-beams using the I-Beam Trolley Top or to the Beta Max Trestle/Monorail for rooftop or between floor installations. The hoists contain a non-rotating cable to help prevent loads from spinning while lifting and lowering objects.

To ensure safety, the Scorpio hoists are equipped with an upper limit switch that stops the hoist instantly when the load reaches the top. In addition, the hoist is equipped with a sturdy electrical controller with an overloading sensing device to protect the motor from damage caused by overwork or poor power supply.

“The design of the hoist makes it a good fit to endure the rough environment of any construction trade,” says Tami Hamilton, vice president of Beta Max Hoist. “It has limit switches and safety features to ensure worker safety and minimize potential for product damage.”
