RER Spotlights: High-Reach Equipment

Snorkel

Snorkel's A46JRT rough terrain articulated boomlift offers a 46-foot, 11-inch maximum platform height and zero tail swing. The unit is powered by a Kubota V1505T diesel engine and can climb slopes up to 45 percent. An oscillating front axle facilitates performance on rough terrain. The unit has an inside turning radius of 32 inches, horizontal reach of up to 24 feet, 11 inches, with proportional multi-function, variable-speed controls. The unit has a 5-foot, 140-degree jib, ground clearance of 13 inches and a 39-inch by 72-inch tri-entry basket that can lift 500 pounds or two people with tools. Wide, foam-filled, rough-terrain tires are standard.

JLG

JLG's brand-new SkyGuard is an aftermarket accessory that provides enhanced control panel protection for boomlifts. When activated by about 50 pounds of force, the SkyGuard sensor, which can be initiated from a variety of angles, stops all functions and undoes most functions in use at the time of sensor activation for less than a second's worth of time. If extreme force is exerted, the sensor bar breaks away to provide additional space for the operator, a horn and optional blue flashing beacon simultaneously alerts other workers. Uses no movable parts and can be installed on most combustion-powered JLG boomlifts manufactured from 2004 and after.

Genie

Genie presents three new rough-terrain scissorlifts, the GS-2669 DC; GS-3369 DC and GS-4069 DC (pictured). The 4069 is a 40-foot full-drive-height electric scissorlift, able to be used indoors as well as outdoors, able to drive through dirt, sand and mud. Non-marking rough-terrain tires are standard with turf tires optional. A standard front active oscillating axle helps keep all four wheels on the ground, enhancing machine control and traction on hilly or obstacle-filled terrain. The axle senses the terrain and adjusts the axle position based on ground conditions. A 5-foot extension deck provides operators with increased work platform space.

Diversified Products

The single-man baskets from Diversified Products can attach to any knuckleboom that meets ASME standard B30.23. Specialized adapters facilitate installation. Able to hold up to 350 pounds, the full-sized floor is 30 inches wide by 30 inches deep, with slots for water drainage and upset holes for skid resistance. The basket includes a tilt angle indicator and disc brakes. The baskets are constructed from heavy-duty steel.

Terex

The Terex Hi-Ranger TCX65/100 non-overcenter material handling aerial device is designed to allow operators to work in three phases without repositioning. It can also enable positioning the truck to work on “H” structures. A 24-inch basket lift is available to help operators maneuver into difficult positions. With a working height up to 105 feet and a platform capacity up to 700 pounds in all positions, the TCX65/100 has 110-degree lower boom articulation to achieve 47 feet of side reach. The unit can be installed on a 6x6 chassis with front bumper winch and uses high-strength material for a low-weight design. Dual-lift cylinders on each elevator tub give the TCX65/100 a compact stow height.

Haulotte

The C2668RT (pictured) and C3368RT rough-terrain scissorlifts come with a Tier 4-compliant Kubota engine. The units feature four-wheel-drive, and 11-inch ground clearance and automatic hydraulic differential lock enable them to climb steep slopes and work productively on uneven ground. Standard outriggers are included within the machines' footprint; the redesigned bumper serves as the first step for easier entry into the platform. The outside turning radius is 11 feet, 6 inches.

Manitou

The model MT 5519 telescopic handler features a low-profile, compact frame with an overall height of 6 feet, 4 inches, and a tight turning radius of 11 feet, giving it the ability to maneuver in low buildings and confined jobsites. The low-profile boom reaches to a height of 19 feet, 1 inch, and has a 5,500-pound lift capacity. Internal wet disc brakes are standard equipment for better stopping capability and longer life. A spring-applied hydraulic-release parking brake is automatically applied when the engine is shut off or by manually pressing a rocker switch — a design that eliminates the cable stretch and adjustments associated with competitive machines.
