Hyster

Hyster Company announces the newest addition to the Fortis line of lift trucks. The sit-down, counterbalanced IC, solid pneumatic tire Fortis H40-70FT offers low cost of operations while being dependable. With capacities ranging from 4,000 to 7,000 pounds, this new series of lift trucks reduces operating costs by matching the right engine with the proper transmission for specific application needs, in addition to other enhancements. Multi-tiered engine-transmission configurations create efficient powertrains, which offer greater fuel efficiencies and best in class productivity. The increased dependability of the H40-70FT Fortis line of lift trucks comes in part from the redesigned hydraulic system. Simplified hydraulic componentry and routing away from heat sources such as the engine reduces the number of potential leak points. The electrical systems have also been upgraded for improved reliability. The use of solid-state magnetic Hall Effect sensors, designed for the rigorous standards of the aerospace industry are magnetically operated, have no mechanical connection and are fully sealed from the environment, while IP66 sealed wiring connectors used throughout the truck keep water and other contaminants from entering the system.

Mustang

Mustang Manufacturing has introduced two new telescopic handlers, models 642 and 844, to its Value Series. The two models share boom designs with the larger Mustang Deluxe Series of telehandlers, giving them extra durability. The 642 has a lift capacity of 6,600 pounds and lift height of 42 feet. The 844 has a rated lift capacity of 8,000 pounds and a lift height of 44 feet. The two-joystick design was optimized using computer simulation to improve the ergonomics for the operator. The 642 and 844 pilot-operated controls have one joystick for boom control, and another for frame leveling and attachment control.

Ramrod

The 2006 model Ramrod Taskmaster comes with new and improved features designed to make work go smoothly and safely. The Ramrod models are available in special packages from 31-inch wheel to 44-inch track designs, with a choice of engines including the 902 Kubota diesel as well as Kawasaki, Kohler and Honda gas versions. Most will give the operator eight hours on the job before refueling. The Taskmasters have more than 40 attachments including buckets, pallets, carryalls, loose material handling and more.

Duane Rose, owner of Rose Farm Implements in Zehner, Saskatchewan, Canada, sells the Taskmaster and also uses it on the farm for various tasks. Rose uses it for applications from cleaning out sheep pens, which requires getting into tight spaces, to digging out of 4 feet of snow in the winters. “All of the attachments are just amazing,” he says. “You can change them so quickly, in just 15 to 20 seconds.” Rose also likes the traction it gives him and says his slogan for the machine is, “Doing tough jobs in small places.”

Manitou

Manitou North America introduces the MLT 627 compact telehandler. The new Maniscopic is an update to the MLT 526 that incorporates Tier II compliant engines and other value-added benefits. The standard torque converter transmission with an electro-hydraulic reversing lever allows fast and precise maneuvering while putting maximum torque to the drive wheels. The MLT 627 is equipped with two front and one rear cab mounted work lights in addition to the road lights previously found on all models. This further improves the operator's ability to work in low light conditions. The telehandler has a lift height of 18 feet and a forward reach of 11 feet.

JLG

The SkyTrak Model 10054 telehandler from JLG has a lift capacity of 10,000 pounds and a maximum lift height of 53 feet, 2 inches. Its features include ZF drivetrain using axles with heavy-duty inboard wet brakes for longer disc and pad life, limited slip front differential and a fully modulated powershift transmission. Weatherproof controls and functions in the redesigned cab allow for greater operator productivity and comfort. The telehandler also includes auxiliary hydraulics for added versatility with the use of many SkyTrak attachments, such as an earth auger, side tilt and swing carriages, and utility and concrete buckets.

Komatsu

Komatsu introduces the 84-hp SK1026-5 skid-steer loader, an 8,068-pound unit with enhanced loader arm and bucket control. It has one of the longest wheelbases in its class, according to the company, and high performance HydrauMind hydraulics. The SK1026-5 features a vertical lift loader arm designed to keep the load steady through the lifting cycle and allow maximum bucket reach at full dump height for truck loading and handling palletized materials. It also improves stability in load-and-carry applications because the bucket remains close to the machine and moves in a vertical path.

Ingersoll-Rand

The VR-530C telescopic tool material handler combines the versatility of a tool carrier with the reach and capacity of a lift and place machine. The material handler has a compact footprint and tight turning radius, allowing it to maneuver easily in tight jobsites. The VR-530C comes standard with a powerful 4-cylinder, 100-hp Perkins 1140C-44T turbocharged Tier II engine and hydrostatic transmission — a powertrain that offers both smooth operation and drive, and hydraulic power. Operators can choose between low and high all-wheel-drive modes on the VR-530C. Working speeds, forward and reverse, range from zero to 4.6 mph with available inching.

Bobcat

The Bobcat V518 features an 18-foot lift height with a 5,500-pound lifting capacity, designed for applications that need more lift height, a longer reach, or the ability to lift heavier payloads than smaller equipment. The V518 is powered by a turbo-charged, liquid-cooled, 105-hp Perkins diesel engine. With its heavy-duty hydrostatic drive system, the Bobcat V518 shifts on-the-fly between high and low drive speed ranges. The automotive-style transmission makes them simple to operate. Unlike torque converter transmissions, the VersaHandler tool carriers have dynamic braking, allowing controlled movement, such as inching up or down slopes on the jobsite.

Tim Crump owns Superior Surfaces in Charleston, S.C. After renting another lift and carry machine for years, Crump purchased the V518 VersaHandler. “Compared to what I had been renting, the Bobcat telescopic not only cost less, but it could do more,” he says. “It's a whole lot better machine that's great for moving materials, and for excavating and grading.”

Caterpillar

Caterpillar's TH560B telehandler has an operating weight of 26,450 pounds and a rated load capacity of 10,000 pounds. Its lift height is 44.25 feet and has a maximum forward reach of 30.2 feet. The TH560B features three steering modes — 2-wheel, crab and circle steer — for maneuvering in tight spaces and the turning radius is 12.7 feet. The telehandler also has a 48-degree axle steering angle, and no tail swing further enhances maneuverability. A standard rear axle lock engages automatically when the boom is lifted more than 45 degrees, enhancing stability. The TH560B comes equipped with a canopy or enclosed cab, which is certified to provide falling object and rollover protection.

Stone Construction Equipment

The Mud Buggy material handler from Stone Construction Equipment features a quick-release system that allows the outer tires to be removed easily to allow the Buggy access through doorways. The system features a spin-off hub that does not require fumbling with lug nuts or torque wrenches. The operator platform is angled to provide maneuverability in tight places. It includes a splashguard to prevent mud, water and debris from being thrown onto the platform or the operator. The brake extends transversely across the width of the platform, enabling the operator to engage the brake with either foot without stepping off the platform.

Terex

The PS6-AWS dumper from Terex is an all-wheel-drive articulating site dumper that is a scaled down version of a dump truck. Its chassis allows the body of the bed — located in front of the machine — to rotate 90 degrees on either side. The rotating design enables an operator to unload from the side while keeping the chassis straight. Using a power shuttle 4-speed transmission with four speeds forward and four speeds reverse, the PS6-AWS has a travel speed of 17 mph. It offers a turning circle of 25 feet and a payload capacity of 13,300 pounds.
