Aerial Lift Training To Precede Safety Conference
Aerial Work Platform Training Inc. will conduct aerial lift training in Houston, Nov. 28 and 29 prior to the Aerial Platform Safety Conference & Expo, which opens Nov. 30. Training will take place at the Marriott Westchase Hotel in Houston, site of the APS Conference. Equipment will include scissor lifts and boom lifts provided by Skyjack, Haulotte US and JLG Industries.
Those who successfully complete the training will receive a PAL (Powered Access Licensed-Registration) Card valid for five years from the date of training. The card shows the categories of aerial work platforms that the holder has been trained to operate and has security features including a holographic logo and the operator’s photograph and signature to prevent misuse.
AWPT is offering its one-day PAL Card operator training on both days. The two-day AWPT-approved instructor training includes PAL Card training on the first day and AWPT instructor training on the second day. Those aiming to become an approved instructor should be able to provide proof of experience with platforms, as detailed in AWPT’s procedures manual. For more details, visit www.awpt.org or e-mail mail@awpt.org.
The familiar yellow PAL Card is recognized across industries as proof that the holder has been trained to work with platforms safely and correctly. Some 50,000 PAL Cards are awarded each year through more than 150 approved training centers worldwide. The PAL Card recently gained the support and recognition of the U.S.-based Scaffold Industry Association, which recognizes it as proof of training in the use of aerial work platforms and mast climbing work platforms.
Training provided by AWPT was developed by leading industry professionals in North America and is based on IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) training certified as conforming to the international standard ISO 18878. IPAF is the parent organization of AWPT.
“We are delighted to mark our presence at the APS, the only national conference in the U.S. dedicated to aerial lift safety,” said Dennis Eckstine, AWPT vice president. With more than 30 conference sessions and hands-on demonstrations, it’s a great event to find out what lies ahead to improve equipment performance, productivity, and above all, safety.”
Eckstine will moderate the opening general session Safety by design: Technical innovations to improve aerial equipment safety on Nov. 30, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. He will also speak on how AWPT is promoting aerial work platform safety training.
IPAF International Training Manager Rupert Douglas-Jones will discuss Harnesses on aerial work platforms on Nov. 30. He will focus on the correct selection and proper use of fall protection equipment with aerial platforms.
As a co-sponsor, AWPT has negotiated a $100 discount for all AWPT and IPAF members attending the APS. AWPT instructors and those taking the AWPT instructor training also enjoy a special discount rate.
